WordPress and Subversion = <3

I love updating (and installing too) WordPress through Subversion — couple of clicks and keystrokes — and voila, you a have a new version of WP up and running in no time! Especially if you are playing with the nightly builds (as I currently do).

Diamond Price Guru

The latest project I am involved in is Diamond Price Guru — the search engine for diamonds.

It is a quite big and interesting project. It took the programmer about a year to code the engine and multiple crawlers in Java. The programming part was mostly finished already in October last year when I joined the company and the project. There was a draft HMTL code was already there and my job was to create the final code.

Right now, the project is almost done. We’re just searching for bugs, testing, optimizing etc.

I tried to make the front-end code valid as much as possible. Indeed, the front page is valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional. Other pages still contain some invalid XHTML code, because our programmer uses some tags/code snippets which are incompatible with XHTML.

Currently the search engine works well with all major bowsers including IE 6 and 7, Firefox 2 and 3, Opera 9, Safari 3. Of course, the most problems were caused by IE 6 (that’s why I hate it — it always causes problems) and I had to use some workarounds, which don’t look so beautiful.
